Use a team Admin API key, not a User API Key.

Where to create the right key

  • Integrations → API Keys → User API Keys (what you see now) — for Cloud Agents & CLI only. Will not work for audits.
  • Settings → Cursor Admin API Keys → Create — team usage & spend data for audits. Requires Team/Business or Enterprise plan and team admin access.

GitHub Copilot

Classic personal access token (ghp_...) with read:org.

Organization slug

Use the URL slug, not a label. From github.com/acme-corp enter acme-corp — not "Test" or your company display name.

Token

GitHub → Settings → Developer settings → Personal access tokens → Tokens (classic) → Generate. Requires org owner access and Copilot Business or Enterprise on that org.

OpenAI

Organization Admin API key for billing and usage data.

Not a project API key

Keys from API keys → Create ( sk-proj-...) are for calling models only. Audits need an Admin key from Settings → Organization → Admin keys (sk-admin-...).

Do you store audit API keys?+

No. Audit keys are used for a one-time pull and are not stored. Create a workspace later if you want ongoing sync with encrypted credentials.

Is there an AI audit API?+

The public audit is a guided generator, not a public REST API. After you create a workspace, ForgeMeter syncs the same official vendor APIs on a schedule for dashboards and alerts.

How is this different from the AI spend calculator?+

The calculator estimates from list prices and invoices you type in. The audit generator uses live usage from vendor APIs so finance sees actual spend, idle seats, and overlap.
